That is not exactly what I meant. My F3 Cup illustration of a championship devoid of class structure was meant as 25 points for winning the race and 1 point for the driver who finished 10th in the race. Irrespective of what class. On this basis the guy who has won nearly half the races this year, 4 times as many as the next regular competitor etc etc would probably be top scorer (or close) rather than 4th.

And I think this is Jock's point in the wider context. My illustration above is effectively what each individual Mono class championship structure is so why have a scoring system which introduces influences outside of simply beating a fellow competitor.

I agree wholeheartedly that my example above wouldnt work for F3 Cup as its a very unfair way to try to integrate multiple classes into one championship and would almost certainly be detrimental to entries. But this isn't the case with Monoposto because of the way the championship is structured.

Indeed!

Was the half points rule in Mono only introduced because of the Nova awards, or was it already there? I don't recall 'suffering' half point finishes until 2011, but that may have been because the 2000 class was big enough?

the points sytstem as I recall was changed in the mid 90's as a few people complained that they lost points in their own class championship due to the lower points scheme being introduced for the same reason as the nova awards as said above people can win the overall club champion by being champion of nobody.
this was removed along with the overall champion trophy but when the Nova award appeared so did the need for low point scoring but it was put across the board and now we lose points if people cant be botherd to defend their championship position whether it be financial, time or just to make others score low .
i have been effected very much by this even more than Jock in my eyes but he disagrees as if it was not for this rule I would have a two or three point lead of the 1800 class now i am three points behind as my win and fastest lap was not gifted its worth because we were one car short! id have paid some ones entry fee and ran their car if thats all it would have taken!

As a relative newcomer to motorsport and monoposto the way I see it is this.

If a person(s) can be bothered to go the trouble of preparing a car, turning up, PAYING the entry fee, then regardless of the grid numbers, the reward of the points system should remain consistent whether 1 racer turns up in that class or 50. It's their good fortune if the grid is small, it should not be mis-fortune!

I'm frequently battling at the back just trying to finish  but at best scrapping for a few measly championship points, and YES I'm only an infrequent racer due to the tightest budget that you couldn't even begin to imagine, but I wouldnt be very happy If I got even less points (or none) just because there was poor attendance in my class.

And of the few races I do attend, come the day that a grid might be so small that I'm fortunate enough to have a good result, then I make no apologies for wanting the full points system in place when I do! :D

Like-wise, some may think I have a vested interest in this also, however I can answer that in all honesty I just like things to be consistent.

Why do guest score any points at all? If you want to do the championship enter it!

I won a mono1600 race in 2005 at Silverstone as a guest and wasn't concerned with points just wanted to do an additional FF1600 race.

Regarding Oulton a single header on Saturday this causes issues as we need to book time off work to travel up on Friday. There's limited amount of holiday for most people and their family and friends plus a limited amount of money so if you can't do them all like myself you pick the ones that are best tracks, value, most track time etc.

The points issue I would suggest is full points always with 1 or 2 dropped scores to encourage people to do all the races and not penalise the ones that do. Since I am probably never going to be able to do the whole championship it doesn't really effect me.

It's not quite as simple as that! Money or time issues to enter a full championship come into play. But it's still important to others to gain a place in the championship! My sponsor this year was very happy with my results even though I'm way down the list in terms of championship status, but nonetheless it was important to them to have a measure of any success to boast about and promote their company! It certainly drew enough attention to warrant my sponsor getting my ugly mugshot all over several of my local papers recently! (Which happened to PROMOTE Monoposto too)! :D
