Has anyone used an Indy or a bead resin seat in place of a 2 part foam setup? Im just thinking as there is a lot of space in the tub, might be difficult to get a good mould (not to mention all the usual mess that can happen with foam overflow etc)
Once moulded is it easy to trim to shape?

Re: Indy Seat
I would say do a grow foam seat first , and then test the car!!
Pro seats are very good but expensive if you go out for your first test and you are sitting to low!!
I once worked with a current F1 driver in FRS and he made 4 seats in a year and one of them he only did one lap of snet.
Also Trident supplies do very very large seat bags , and if you over flow that you want a good talking to!!

Yeah I guess your right.. I didnt have a very good experience with expanding foam last time I tried hence why thinking of the bead resin seat.

You think this will be ok? Last time I bought it from Tweeks and was something like 38 pounds inc delivery.
How many cans do you think I will need? if its cheap, I dont mind trying.. Just dont want the who foam to overflow and ruin things in the car..

Re: Indy Seat
The first thing making a seat on your own is very difficult and if you did this last time I CAN see why you had problems also a space frame chassis and a carbon tub are very different and the carbon tubs are far easier.
I am doing my self out of business but you need to tape all the loom up and any sharp edges then you need to see where you want the seat to start , then tape the front of the bag down at that part (FRS near battery cover)
then get 4 small plastic drinking cups and a mixing bowl put 3 cups of part a in your mixing bowl then measure 3 cups of b out in 3 separate cups put all 3 cups in so u should then have 3 of each in your bowl , mix this with a coat hanger in an electric drill like you are making a cake.
place this mix in the bottom of the bag as far as you can get it , the get in with out standing on the bag then the tricky part sit still in the correct position .
this amount should make the front part of the seat when its hard you open the bag and slowly add 1 or 2 cups at a time to make the back part thats why I say use small drinking cups .
you really need another pair of hand to close the bag at the top.
I do remember you calling me saying you wanted my help!! anyway good luck and get a large seat foam bag from trident at silverstone as it will make your life far easier and less messy.

Re: Indy Seat
I used an indi-seat (buy it from Raceparts - ALL others are cheap fakes, including the Tweeks one) in the Dallara, and it was really very good.
You really do get a 'perfect' seating position very easily, as you can try the seat 100 times if you need to before you put resin in and replicate the best position.
However, I would still recommend that you try foam seats a bit longer, as you'll end up making a better indi-seat with that experience.
The indi-seat is quite weak though, so it needs protecting if you're taking it in or out a lot. I wanted to use fibreglass, but the the styrene reacts with the polystyrene and makes a gooey mess instead of a shell. Carbon fibre would be better, but I can't afford that. Duct tape just about works, but of course looks terrible.

Yep cheers for the info, will give the foam seat a try and see how it goes. Do you think the foam from the website I mentioned will be ok?

Yes, that's where we've got it from in the past. I got the 5kg option, which gives plenty, and enough spare to fill in gaps or even a second go, especially in a spacious Formula Renault.
