Crash Helmet Stickers

Post by Cscott »

Seeing that the Monoposto guys and gals give the impression of being a knowledgeable lot I thought I'd give you a go at answering a question that couldn't even be answered by the fountain of information that is ten-tenths!

Are you allowed to put vinyl stickers on a crash helmet, both from a scrutineering and a safety point of view?

I have a Bell Sport 4 which I believe to be painted fibreglass but could be wrong, and would like to add a stripe up the middle to match the one on the car (sad I know  )

I have heard from some sources that the chemicals in the glue can react with the material (although I thought this was to do with the plastic injection moulded motorcycle helmets rather than the motorsport type) and damage the strength of the helmet.

Anyone had any experience good or bad?

Cheers

Chris

I have used Vinyl to create a design on my crash helmet. (never could afford a paint job). They were just off cuts from a sign writer. Never had a problem.

I agree with Offline's reasoning. A ban on stickers that was introduced because of possible degredation of injected plastic helmets is perceived to extend to all helmets, by some.

Our local yacht manufacturer decorates his grp hulls with vinyl strips, and then the hulls sit in a horrible concoction of chemicals all season without problem, thus I believe that grp helmets will not deteriorate..............

But will the scrutineers see it that way?

Thanks for the replies, I hope the scrutineers would be fine with it, as long as I wasn't covering any damage which I'm not.

Oh well, I'll sticker it up for thruxton and see what happens.
