Worthy of Awards

Post by TFR »

As we are approaching the Awards time of year there are obviously many candidates, but I would like to draw attention to a couple of guys who have given a lot to Mono this year; one is Andrew Cliffe , super photos and lots of them supplied for almost every round. Andrew makes Mono look very professional, he does so much for the clubs profile, he does it for the love of it and deserves more credit than he ever receives, thankyou very much Andrew. The other is none other than the man I have had many good battles with on the track in the last few years and a man I respect as a real racer, Ewan Sergison. Although Ewan did not race this year he has attended most meetings helping not only Dave Parkinson, but anyone else who needed a hand.I think Ewan has shown the true spirit of Mono. I am sure it is guys like these that make Mono the club it is today, helpful freindly and professional

I realise I am biased, but I would like to point out a fact about Andrew's committment to Mono - he drove all the way from Norwich to Anglesey to take photos for the championship round when the rest of Team Cliffe stayed at home. It's quite a drive, I can tell you. He also attended Donington the second time round, without the rest of Team Cliffe. He also attended Mono races over attending BTCC and others, which also shows his dedication to the group.

Most of the summer, I barely see him at weekends and Geoff is right, he does it for the love of it, it certainly puts a spring in his step.

I now worry that he will be affected by the motorsports photographer strain of Seasonal Affective Disorder!

Like I say, I'm biased. :D

I will second that, 2009 being my first season, there was a lot of things to learn, some lessons learnt the hard way. Ewan was always around to help out, In particular, last minute for the race at Donington, helping make my car half drivable again. Top guy and appreicated all his help but also that of others who gave good advice.

Ah, but Ewen moved over to the "dark side" at Snetterton & raced my Toyota saloon in the CSCC Tin Tops race! Now he has seen the light I'm not sure that he'll want to be seen in a single seater again! If its good enough for Johnny Herbert then its good enough for AVIT obviously! Mind you, he was rude enough to be 5 secs quicker than me in practice, despite never having so much as sat in the car before and I was actually quite pleased to have a fastest race lap just 0.5 seconds slower!

Wow thanks guys!
well now we will have to wait and see when the awards list comes out!
I have a few suggestions to!
Geoff obvuiously deserves both the persistance trophey and the hard luck trophey as if there is ever i trier geoff as it!
I was also present at snetterton whilst a discusion which in the end got alot of intreast about a trophey for the oldest driver car combination!
apparently this is already an award but has not been given out for a while!
We had it going to Dave Parkinson as he is 64 and his car is 26 giving a total combined age of 90 years old! now that does deserve an award!
any one got an older combination?
also is there a trophey for finishin every race? Dave Parkinson and Tony Cotton both did that and are the only ones in all the classes!
And as for going over to the darkside i did find driving the ex works touring car of Andy's tghe best fun ever! i love open wheel racing but it did open my eyes to another fun pass time which i am already looking into!

Thanks again for you kind words folks and for having unreliable cars for me and the AVIT! boys to fix!

Just to clarify - "ex works", yes; "touring car", well sort of. Not a Super Tourer (sadly) but a New Zealand Touring Car and UK National Saloon Car Cup, so Touring Car standard shell but Group N+ mechanicals really.

Thanks Geoff for the vote of thanks. I did all the championship rounds, but I couldn't make Thruxton as I was driving the Reynard and was on holiday in Wales for Mallory.

Most of the time I enjoy it immensely. The first trip to Donington and Silverstone were a little less enjoyable!

This year has seen a number of milestones and personal targets reached...
- getting a season pass to the BTCC championship (several people say they spotted me on the tellyvisionbox)
- the regular exposure in Track and Race Cars
- continued published work in Banzai and Japanese Performance magazine with other race series
- published in Motorsport News twice
- published in Autosport twice.

Looking forward to 2010 already :)
