Formula 4 - no not that one...

Post by andrewcliffe »

Today MSV have announced the launch of another new championship - they have the backing of the BRDC and the new BRDC Formula 4 will use Van Diemen built cars powered by Ford Duratec engines.

An interesting development when FR & F Ford ecoboost have struggled.

Seems to be aimed at the BARC FR market to me, but is it really necessary? Are there really the drivers to fill it? They'd be better off backing "Mono 1800" or a "Mono 1600 Duratec" series in my opinion.

Wonder what 750mc think about the name - do they not have rights to the title?

I suspect there are some worried people in FR and FF camps as MSV are quite a good promoter.

One of the problems with new teams or privateers trying to enter FR BARC is that they are up against teams with such a huge database of setups and data from each circuit as the Tatuus Formula Renault has been out since 2000 and so you've got a new team up against an established team which has 12 years head start.

Intersteps uses a 2002 Mygale chassis with a BMW bike engine.

FF Ecoboost hasn't been well supported this year either.

Not enough people around with money in any category
F Vee FFord to historics sports cars or F1
no need for new series irrelevent who runs it as usual the customer racer is the mug that will pay the price
IF MSVR/ BRDC VD and Ford etc want to promote this give away free cars for 3 years use to see if it takes off
I doubt they will put their money where their mouth is so why should the racer front up
In the meantime lets sort out our own racing

750 have supposedly sold the rights the the F4 name to MSVR. Wonder what will happen to their own ss series?

Not sure what will happen with the 750MC F4. They have said they have given permission for MSVR to use the Formula 4 name for 2013 and beyond and the cash in return will be useful for the 750MC.

They have said that all current f4 cars will continue to be eligible for whatever follows, but I guess it gives them the chance to tweak the regulations.
