Track Driver mag

New mag out called Track Driver. Similar to the old Circuit Driver magazine which became Track and Race Cars. Subscription only, but 25,000 free subscriptions were given by their website.

Issue one arrived yesterday - nice double page Mono feature (written by Simon, photos by me). Photos include Rupert, Sara, Lenny, Henry, Lou, Nigel and Russ amongst others.

Nice article on Monoposto Racing Club. Its a pity there wasn't one mention or picture of the Motorcycle racing class!

The editor of Track Driver said that in issue one, there is a single seater feature where familiar and headlining cars get to have a second wind, so Masters F1, those eligible for Mono and finally FF.

Bike powered cars are somewhat new to the scene, so maybe the magazine didn't consider them familiar or headlining enough - but maybe an opportunity for a follow up feature in the future?

Anyone receive their copy from the free sub offer??? I have not seen it in the shops either, tried a fair few WH Smiths as well.

Yes, receive the first issue some time ago. Not sure when the second issue is due out (any time now?). It won't be sold in WH Smiths or anywhere else - its subscription only, suposedly paid for by advertising.

I signed up fairly early on when the magazine was being first talked about and received issue 1 on 13th July.

The editor sent me a list of contents for issue 2, which is due to arrive any day now, and asked if I could kindly put a mention on Racing Exposure - which I did, and he mentioned there was still spaces on the mailing list for free copies.

The first 25000 copies were free for a year.

Whilst shops and newsagents is nice exposure, the profit the magazine gets from a sale in a shop is pennies after the newsagent and all the delivery and distribution people take their cut, and its easier for a niche market thing to be subscription only.
