Track & Race Car

Post by RedRedWine »

Anybody seen it lately? (December issue?) I only ask because there's a picture of me in it on their website, but I can't find it in the shops.

December!!! you'll be lucky, I'm still waiting for my November issue to be delivered after chasing it up twice. I'm not too impressed with them at the moment

I can't get in touch with them either - subscription may not have been one of my best investments !!

Can't remember which is which, but they got bored of covering each race two months late (not entirely their fault, as the racing never seemed to be at a good time relative to their copy deadlines), and just went straight to the year review... Also not impressed that the Mallory headline was used for several meetings either!

It's great having Mono in a magazine, but it seems there is little more content than we get in Autosport really, so there is room for improvement. Having met Keith briefly at the Stoneleigh show last year I would say he's keen to improve, and he seems to take constructive criticism well.

I'd bet that plenty of the club's members have 'stories' about their exploits that could be made into an article - winter rebuilds, the day everything went wrong, the day everything went right. Maybe even "How to..." articles? Is that something the club and the magazine want to examine, or is everyone content with a two page spread of each race meeting in only a little detail?

I know Simon has done the "Young Guns" article, and is planning an "Old Gits" article (:p), so perhaps there is room to get a bit more coverage for the club and its members?

I quite like the magazine (when it turns up!) but they really do need to read it before they publish, the mistakes in it are laughable, looks like its been written by kids who only speak 'txt' sometimes!

I used to get it on subscription several years ago but found that the publication dates were very variable and the quality of the writing & editing very poor. I spoke to Keith about getting involved with Mono when I still had the Vauxhal Junior, so that must have been about 5 years ago, and although they semed interested they never followed up, even though I offered a track test/ race. Glad they finally decided to get involved. Nevertheless, it really is not a very good quality publication in my view, and some of the content is a bit childish. They were also partially reponsible for the demise of "Circuit Driver" Magazine, too, so another reason not to be impressed with them.

Andy,

Interesting, like you I was a enthusiastic subscriber to 'Circuit Driver', can you explain further? By email if necessary.
