Can anybody throw some light on how to best do this?

Can they be blasted or are they too soft?

Once stripped, do I need any special kind of primer?

Can the rims be polished?

Shotblast and powder coat.

Bit out of your way but these guys do a lot of race car parts every day. About £150 plus VAT for a set.

Also a bit out of your way, but Colorcote at Hethel, Norwich are also happy to do magnesium shotblasting and powder coating. Not sure of the cost without looking, but around the same that Nick posted. And don't have their number as I'm writing this on the way back from Stoneleigh

Thanks for your replies, chaps. I must admit though, as this is only a non essential, purely cosmetic task, I'm looking for the cheapest option. I don't mind spraying them myself, as long as I know which primer to use. Do you think a normal etch primer is ok with magnesium (I take it they ARE magnesium, judging by their name and featherweight!)
On the polishing front, again with the magnesium issue, will they come up nicely or stain?

I cannot comment on the correct primer if indeed it is anything special.

However if you have the wheels blasted and polished then I recommend you have them lacquered. If you don't they will lose air as the magnesium will be slightly porous and the outside surface exposed to the air will oxidise in white blobs.

And as a Brucey bonus, if I do laquer the rims, I can polish them myself to a reasonable finish, then the laquer will give them a nice sheen that doesn't need endless polishing! I love it when a plan comes together!
