Dubai 24 Hour Race

Fellow Monoposti may be glad to learn that the club was represented at the Dubai 24 Hour race last weekend. Peter Venn was aboard a Renault Clio Cup car in the 2 litre class and finished a hard won 45th (out of 95 entries). Much to the dismay of his team most of the cars in the race finished and the team were not able to take advantage of the usual expected retirements. In fact about 75% of the field made the chequered flag which is a testament to the reliability of modern race cars and also the determination of the pit crews. I think one of the Ginettas only needed three engine changes to complete the distance. Some 15 Mercedes SLSs were entered, these cars are brutal, fast and appear to be built like brick sh*t houses. I want one.
Jane and I were pit lane marshals as my efforts to get a drive came to nothing. For reasons beyond my knowledge I was promoted to Chief for the night. Seeing things from a driver's perspective there were of course no infringements during my shift.
I realise that racing is like sex, better to take part in than watch but a great weekend was had by all.
