Any one worried about weather your car needs this modification or not dont panic!
If your unsure bring it to the race meeting and ask a scrutineer there and then and if it does AVIT! Motorsport will have plenty of material and a welder and can do the mod trackside for a fee of £15 per wishbone and done on the car!
Might even bring some black paint to pretty the job up but this is not a definate he he!
We will be at all meetings but round one we will be at brands from friday lunch time!

Hmmmmmmmmm..........

This reg seems to me to be just asking people think carefully about what might happen if they hit something & a wishbone becomes detached.
Why not look carefully at your car & decide if there is any practicable modification that would protect you from an errant wishbone/ or deflect it if it became detached rather than approaching the issue as yet another pointless regulation to be got around. On some cars the intrusion bars on the wishbones are appropriate & on many others the designers have already constructed the tubs/wishbone mountings such that they tend to deflect the wishbone away from your legs..........but where modifications are appropriate it would be much better that they be done carefully in advance rather than in paddock panic mode. Simply tacking an intrusion bar across the legs of a wishbone may not always be the answer & you really do need to take proper account of the construction of the car.

As a squeamish namby I'm always amazed at the way some people are happy to ride around with sharp metal brackets just above their knees (brake balance controls on saloons are the worst) and headrest mountings specially designed to puncture their helmets etc etc. I'd hope (and expect) that scrutineers would approach the issue by advising competitors about possible dangers they may see & ways they could be reduced, rather than preventing people racing on the day.

There you go now .........my Thought for Today!

This question arises from a "Clarification" just issued by the MSA in the January MSA News.

We are taking advice about this, and hope to be able to update everyone in the very near future.

We've been advised by MSVR's Chief Scrutineer, who is an MSA Technical Commissioner, that this issue should have no affect on cars which are running in their "as designed" specs and have previously been passed as OK. If the car is a new design or you've modified the car (for example by removing chassis shielding around the suspension components, or removing anti-intrusion bars if they were part of the original design), then it could be sensible to get specific advice. If you contact me I can help on this.

However it's clear that a sensible approach is being taken to this issue by the Scrutineers.
