Mono 1800 weights for next season

Post by Douglas »

Monoposto Weight limits for MZetrc and M1800 next season..
The current weight limits for these classes are set for young potential professional drivers who are generally smaller than Monoposto drivers! Most cars in M1800 llast season ran well above the weightimit.

The Mono Board are considering a proposal to raise the weight limits for these classes next season by 5 or 10 kg.

The weights could be set at different levels for M1800 and Zetec classes if drivers in those classes had different views.

Would be interested in your views before we meet to discuss next Tuesday evening.

Hello all!
My car and me come in after race/ quali at 537 kgs with 5kg of lead (brake claipers) in the nose.
my car has wider wheels and wins front and back aswell as a rather heafty camera system.
but im not as fat as most of my fellow 1800 competitors at a mear 67kg.
Its club racing when alls said and done so if I have to bolt on some bits to make the weight im game, i mean tyhers no say it has to be ballast i could for instance make a full deffuser and floor pan :o

Oh dear.. Weighing in at a mere 98 kilos I feel a diet may well be in order. Having said that, I might just give away free pie and beer for the upcoming season. By the last few races I should be lighter than others.... :)

May I recommend the Griffin diet? As much food, wine (and occasional cigars) as you can stuff into yourself coupled with lots of running and generally worrying about things.

Erm! Not sure what to say about that John !
Erm well maybe you can get a defuser and get em to add like 30 kgs to the limit he he.
But then what could I add?
But having said that you will be a lot lighter on December first when you remove that nasty 70's porn tash you've grown for Movember !
When will we find out what the outcome of the meeting is Doug?
All in jest triple j love you really x

Information from someone no longer racing, for the 1800 minimium, weight debate: My unmodified 1800 Swift raced to the minimum 535kg weight. To achieve this weight it used a 30Ah red top battery, raced with a full fuel tank (22l if I remember correctly), carried 3kg of lead, and an 80kg driver.

I could have easily raced at 525kg.

Uffa Fox's view on weight in racing machinery seems appropriate (he was a successful racing dinghy and yacht designer); 'Weight is only useful in a steamroller'.

I have to agree with Patrick re weights I really cant see why we should want to increase,(rather the opposite) unless we wish to be known as the Monoposto UK Heavy Weight Championship. We are supposed to be sports people, i.e, fit and healthy ,we should encourage our members along this path, not towards obesity and all its health issues. Uffa Fox is spot on re weight/steamrollers, let us hope this silly idea is not "steamrollered" through the comitee meeting when no one is looking!

P.S God help Luke Roswell, he is already carrying more lead than we have on our church roof !

Some of us are heavy and slim.
Weight is sometimes added in other sports, National Hunt horse racing (I think so anyway-I don't know that much about horse racing). Weight is added in Formula 1 as all cars are built below the minimum weight limit and are ballasted up to meet it. The advantages are that the weight is distributed as per the requirements of handling and the weight is put in low as possible.
I agree that Monoposto shouldn't be seen to encourage glutony and sloth, there has been a tendency of excessive cake eating in the paddock but this should be strictly policed in the future.
Just standing up for the big guys in the club....... :)

The Board gave the matter a full airing and have decided to leave the M1600 and M1800 weights as they are for 2013.
