Seat belts - things you should know!
I have recently agreed to act as a point of contact to supply TRS harnesses to Monoposti as the manufacturers
are all geared up to deal though distributors, rather than direct to end users.
You can, of course, buy standard single seater 6pt harnesses from lots of suppliers but you may find you'll make a saving - even if you just want a standard harness - if you speak to me.
The standard harnesses that you'll be offered by most suppliers, or can buy online, will work well in many cars but there can be problems. Some cars (eg Dallaras) have looped fixings on shoulder straps, Some cars (eg FVLs) have anchorage points at a strange angle. Not every manufacturer uses the same size anchorage bolts & using washers to bridge the gap or drilling harness anchorage plates (ever tried doing it?) really is not best practice. And then there is the issue of strap lengths. You don't want random excess shoulder strap webbing tickling your face as you go through Eau Rouge. Nor do you really want the harness buckle situated in your cleavage. And not all of us are the same size and adjusters coming close to their limits bring their own problems. And, of course, you want your harness to work well with a HANS device if you use one.............so........really a harness made to measure can offer real benefits.
Amazingly, the ever so tolerant people at TRS seem happy to produce one off harnesses to match your particular shape, requirements and desires. ....and you have a choice of nice colours as well!
It works like this - I send you a form on which you can specify exactly what lengths/fixings/adjuster types & positions/colour/Hans compatibility /widths etc etc you would like. Return it to me and TRS will make the harness to your spec (so DO get your measurements right!) & it will appear on your doorstep at a cost that will most probably be less than you would pay if you sought out a 'bargain' on eBay or availed yourself of a 'special offer' elsewhere.

I use TRS belts now. Far better than the other brands that I have tried (Willans, Luke, Schroth etc) - the webbing isn't that stiff when new, and details like velcro on the excess straps, and the action of the buckles and adjusters is just lovely. As I'm a boring geek I do tend to stick to black webbing, but I know that Steve Patania had a very pleasing orange colour on his Dallara (which the car still has with the new owner).
I don't plan on using any other brand of harness if I can avoid it.

I think all the good brands are just that - good!
I tend to stick with Willans in my cars as they saved me from serious injury in the only big accident I've had in a single-seater and then, in keeping with their view that you should replace belts after an accident (as they are designed to stretch under load) they replaced the set free of charge. I know they have changed ownership in the meantime but there was a strong Mono connection to Willans in the days of John Fenning through the local "Hampshire Mafia" as it was then with people like Carl Jeanes (aka "The Streaker"), Tony Broster and Sean Ross.
Having said that, the racing Honda we had at the Nürburgring came with the flashy green Takata belts that the factory Hondas in Japanese GT use (we got them foc) and they were lovely so as and when I get around to building the next racing Honda (CRZ with K20 type R engine and Sadev box...) it will have green Takata belts

The TRS belts I bought via Dermot have been very good, although I have not tested them in extremis.

I use TRS belts from Dermot in the Group 4 Escort, they have nice compact buckle assembly (doesn't stick in your internal organs when braking hard or being trussed in by your unsympathetic helper!) and nice lightweight adjusters, and all at the value for money prices you've come to expect from Mr Healy

I thought we should see the state of Broadside's internal organs. Sometimes I do my seat belts up so tight my internal organs risk becoming external organs.

I've just got new belts for my "static" Dallara from Dermot/TRS. Absolutely great service, superb quality at a very attractive price. I cannot praise Dermot and James highly enough and offer a full endorsement.
