I have just stripped my clutch down after a session on the rolling road identified a dragging issue. When trying to get the plates out the intermediate plate was pretty solidly wedged in which was obviously causing the clutch not to release. Not sure now what to do next or whether a new set of steel plates and clutch plates could solve the problem.
AP are quoting 3 weeks to look at the unit and a silly sum of money which might in the end make it easier to buy a complete new unit. Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated as Oulton park seems to be slippy away day by day.
Please contact me on my mobile: 07710 571463.
Many thanks
Peter

Re: AP Racing Twin Plate Clutch Problems
Distortion from heat is very common, although later units apparently got a bit better.
What you can do is prise the plates out (carefully!), and then file them so that they slide easily, with a few thou of clearance. You can do that several times too if necessary, but check them for flatness when you do it because if they are too warped they'll continue to drag when released, creating heat, creating distortion etc.
Mr Harrison (and others) have been seen with cars split in a garage between sessions frantically filing the plates!

Re: AP Racing Twin Plate Clutch Problems
Indeed, someone has been riding the clutch.
Re: AP Racing Twin Plate Clutch Problems
It was fine before I went to the rolling road, 'he said in his defence'.
Thanks both for your help.

Re: AP Racing Twin Plate Clutch Problems
For the spline measure the diameter of the shaft and count the splines.
For the plate, you could look up the part number that'll be stamped on your one and compare to here https://www.apracing.com/drawings/2016% ... clutch.pdf. Also, I have my doubts that Demon Tweeks would be the cheapest place to buy (but you never know, stranger things have happened).
