Re: Rain Lights
Succumbed to the zeitgeist alas - or, more accurately, not prepared to wager a race entry on persuading scrutineering my existing light is compliant. Bought a Lifeline one, delivered within 24 hours of ordering from www.polevolt.co.uk at £80.50 all in which is usefully cheaper than that available fr...

Re: 2009 Regulations (Not MSA approved yet)
I note the regualtions under 3.7 Race Stops are not aligned with 2009 Blue Book G23 & G24 (p271) which call for races not to be declared finished until the leader has completed 75% of the race distance. Albeit with the force majeure clause that CoC can decide not to re-run or re-start a race as he b...

Re: TIG welders
Sorry ignore my useless ramblings on this thread. Post said 'TIG' I read 'MIG'. Nuff said.

Re: TIG welders
Found a very useful site a while back covering DIY welders and techniques when I was thinking of buying one. Needless to say can't find it for the life of me...... What does stick in the mind is that you do need to spend a bit of money - about £200 - £500 I seem to recall since the cheap (<£100) wel...

Re: Who can use out of date seat belts?
HANS cost nothing like £1,200 schomo - which is still less than the current price of a new head. Context was stage rally, crew of two. Maybe it evens out cos they have twice the budget - hah hah! I am aware of the lower priced HANS (£440) as I have been considering purchasing one for myself - unfor...

Re: Who can use out of date seat belts?
MSA follows the FIA on safety - declared policy several times over if you read between the lines in their published works. Its a get-out-of-jail card for when it hits the fan - we were following recognised best practice (ergo if it is good enough for the FIA it's 'best practice'). Compulsory HANS de...

Re: Who can use out of date seat belts?
(G) Car racing. 125. Currently FIA homologated safety harness should be fitted and worn at all times by the Driver during training, practice and competition unless the vehicle was constructed in periods A to E. I would agree that to make it a mandatory regulation 'should' needs to be replaced by 'sh...

Re: Rain Lights
So with reference to the FIA approved list and the conflicting experience of users, "All LED lights are equal, but some LED lights are more equal than others......."

Re: Rain Lights
Its all right, I'm in 'spot the rip-off mode'. I note from the FIA list there are three examples of the same light unit all of which appear to be identical to that manufactured by Kingston and available at about £4 each if you buy in quantity. I know, I was going to buy a batch until I decided there...

Rain Lights
Does any one have a copy of the as published (or as will be published) 2009 MSA Blue Book text addressing rain lights? I'm not interested in what people think might be published, I would like to see the actual text.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Wheel material - aluminium versus magnesium
The continuing fruitless search for used magnesium rims for the Ralt has lead me to investigate buying new. Comparing prices aluminium versus magnesium is eye watering - typically £300 - £500 for modular rims with magnesium centres or cast one-piece whereas aluminium rims can be bought for little mo...

I had seen Geoff and car around but since I race in the other Mono class had never put name to face. It was Geoff who bailed me out Snetterton on the Saturday morning with the loan of a rod end and advice on what best to do with the rather bent push-rod I had in my other mitt. I certainly wasn't awa...

That was the point I was trying to make - people choose cars with their hearts as much as their heads. Then work out what series it is eligible for. Biggest mistake many make is buy the wrong car then complain bitterley that there isn't a series whose regulations cater for their particular car. For ...
