Re: gearbox
Although in club racing you'll probably get away with changing one dog ring every other season. Anything more means you're doing it wrong. A ratio pair will on average last 4 or 5 years or more, unless you change gear badly in which case you can damage them quite quickly. Much cheaper (and faster) t...

Re: Brands Hatch pit access
His apology is interspersed with comments like "I'd definitely do it again" and "it was a mega rush" and "I live every day like it's my last".
As fake apologies go, it isn't very good.

Re: Gear Ratio change - assistance required
If they can't make it, or get stuck in traffic etc., I'd be happy to act as their stand-in.

Re: Entrants Licence - Benefits?
None in Monoposto.
In F3 Cup teams can score points for a Team Championship, and they need an entrants licence to be eligible. But other than that, there is no benefit either.

Re: Seat belts - things you should know!
I use TRS belts now. Far better than the other brands that I have tried (Willans, Luke, Schroth etc) - the webbing isn't that stiff when new, and details like velcro on the excess straps, and the action of the buckles and adjusters is just lovely. As I'm a boring geek I do tend to stick to black web...

Re: Monoposto 2014
I thought you could use wet tyres whenever you liked (e.g. Dry start, but gambling on it raining). But if the race is declared wet then you must go out on wets. Not that anyone, fortunately, pays any attention to that silly rule, as those gifted drives on slicks in wet conditions. ( through choice) ...

Re: Monoposto 2014
I don't disagree with you Jim! But as soon as you have a rule to combat silly spending, those same people will try and find a way around it by pretending a scrubbed in set of new slicks is "used" (which they sort of are), when most people think of used tyres as those that have done a race or 10 or m...

Re: Monoposto 2014
what happens when you start the weekend on a set of used tyres that will barely do one day, and want to use another set of worn out tyres for the next day. I thought this was to stop more than one new set of tyres being used in a weekend, A small minority spoiling it for the majority. Can't think o...

Re: Monoposto 2014
Apparently, someone (and I don't know who) felt the need to buy speed by using a new set per day (or possibly per session, but that's surely too much?).

Re: Monoposto 2014
With a special paint pen/symbol/code so that the more cunning competitors don't just mark up all their tyres.

Re: Monoposto 2014
The obvious answer is that if people scrutineer the car on wets (because it's wet, or because they don't want to push their car around the paddock on their race tyres, or because they haven't had the chance to change them yet...) the eligibility scrutineer can pop round at some point to mark up tyre...

Re: Monoposto 2014
I used to use 3 sets per year (including whatever testing I did, which was about 1.5 days per season). The A53s seem to manage about 4-6 races fairly easily.

Re: friday 7th snett testing
That was my point. Go quickly in your car. If you have a slow car, go as quickly as you can. Don't spend two laps dawdling around at 30% of your ability/speed because "it's a bit wet", as all you do it catch someone out who wasn't expecting, say, an F3 car to do 60mph in a 120mph corner. Yes, the yo...

Re: friday 7th snett testing
The open wheels will be out together unless there is a massive influx of them for testing in which case they might split it up. Very unlikely though. I should also add that there is nothing particularly dangerous about that arrangement. Simply go at a sensible speed (i.e. not too slowly, even in the...

Re: Silverstone race time
Plus Silverstone have the world's most expensive lumps of warm chicken.
On a monthly basis, race tracks appear to hate the competitors more and more. Maybe they hope we'll bugger off so they can build a business park or a hotel on the land and make more money.
