Resignation

I am surprised that it has not been anounced by others, but on 5/08/11, in an email to the Chairman and Directors, I resigned all my Monoposto posts i.e. Club Secretary, Startline Editor, and Director. I can categorically state that this resignation was not so that I can spend more time with my: fam...

Re: Mental Capacity

If one is going to drive a fully adjustable modern formula car, I agree with the fighter pilot comparison. One must have the ability to multi-task while under pressure. I know that it's a question of teaching a very old dog new tricks, but I recently challenged myself by learning to fly a three axis...

Re: Mono Budgets - How much do you spend per season?

Russ, the bigger boys' toys have tended to be sequential rather than simultaneous, unlike Steve Griffin, I sold the yacht before I went motor racing, but will admit that currently I can put a racing dinghy on the water, the Multisport onto a race track, and a microlight into the air. Spent a couple ...

Re: Mono Budgets - How much do you spend per season?

Ask the missus, never.

We have an agreement, she does not mention my cars, yachts or microlight, and I say yes to all her holiday suggestions, seems to work. :D

Re: Mono Budgets - How much do you spend per season?

I am a couple of years out of date, and my figures would have to be increased to account for the recent increase in the cost of fuel. However, I did keep detailed records for several years and costs were consistent, they decreased when Monoposto started to purchase races and lowered entry fees. Inte...

Tony wrote 'outsiders coming in for a quick buck'.

The Treasurer must have worked out a way of racing Monoposto that escapes me.

Re: Engine pre-heaters

You will see small Rotax engined aircraft sitting round clubhouses for minutes with their engines running at 2000rpm. They are waiting for the oil temperature to reach 50 degrees C before using full throttle for take off and climb out. Treated this way the engines will last for at least 3000 hours. ...

Re: Which Class 2011?

Hi Chris, How competitive would a well driven 1700 Renault be in the smaller class in theory? Tony Davies showed that a 1700 Renault can be fully competative in the Mono1600 class, his record should be better, but in recent seasons his car suffered from minor electrical faults. Several 1700 Renaults...

Re: Winter testing

When one first experiences a race car, one needs to learn: that it works, how it works, and how the driver can work within its environment. When I bought my first car all the above were achieved at a disused local airfield that I was fortunate enough to gain access to. When I got to a race track I w...

Re: Saying hello

Welcome to you Dave,

I think that a FF1800 Zetec is a sensible choice of car to start racing with, and the Mono1800 class have indulged in some excellent racing this season with a good spread of race winners.

Re: Monoposto, should it expand?

This topic was discussed at the last directors' meeting, see abstract of the minutes on Startline. The initiative, it was an active initiative, appears to have foundered on the silencing regs. Most cars mentioned don't meet 108db...............and circuits have few >108db days available. If we want ...

Re: Something to do in Winter

Despite advancing years and failing memory I can still recall writing an editorial for Startline on this topic (2006 No3). The FIA does not seem to approve of this sort of initiative, judging by the restrictive licences they cause national authorities to issue to club competitors. Yes, there are way...

Tony Cotton's Meringues were delicious when they finally appeared on Monday.
