Old farts medical requirements changes

For the benefit of those who only found out at the last minute. I had just booked my race medical for 2020 when I looked at the smallprint in the MSA renewal pack and promptly cancelled it again. If you’re over 60, you only need a medical at 60, 65, 70, 72, 74 and annually over 74. So since I had to...

Pads for Dallara F397 - Advice needed

Advice appreciated on best source (lowest £££!) for pads for F397. Also recommendations on manufacturer and grade. I hae been using Ferodo as long as I can remember but they seem to have a tendency to crack and fall-apart when left on the car over winter. I take them out now along with the extinguis...

Re: Mono 1000

Interesting. Once I switched to radials I would never have got my RT30 to 560kg without spending silly money lightening components. I was 75kg then.

How dry should a dry sump be?

Spiess pumped XE Dallara. Single stage pressure pump, single stage scavenge back to the oil tank via the oil cooler. Oil tank breathes into catch tank which then breathes to atmosphere. Crankcase breathes to same catch tank from what would have been the dipstick hole in a standard car. There is a ba...

Oil pressure failure at hightemperature

Took newly built Vauxhall XE to Snetterton yesterday to run-in and test and experienced a collapse in oil pressure after about 8 laps. I was only running about 5500 rpm but oil pressure fell rapidly from mid-50s psi to less than 10psi over half a lap before pitting. It was also accompanied by a sign...

Re: Medicals. Licence time

Thanks for the tip Steve. Thinks "Can't remember date of last medical but got loads of time to sort it out!". Checked this evening (7th December) - last medical 5th December 2015. Doh.................. Still he's a good chap and only charges £40 or so, so if Milton Keynes isn't to far to go and you ...

Re: Pirelli v Avons

Just a couple of comments: Simply put, the gas you use DOES NOT MATTER, but water vapour content MIGHT. Don't take this absolutely literally and do something silly like use the oxygen out of your welding set. Oxygen can react explosively with things like oil and grease. Secondly, another thing to be...

Re: Entry fee inflation

Thanks for the comparison data Andrew. Noting that generally Mono has fielded generally large grids in recent years, and assuming the other clubs mentioned are no more intended as profit making enterprises than Mono and track time is whatever it is a minute, then it looks like Mono is relatively che...

Entry fee inflation

Entry fees have always the single biggest part of the self-prepared competitor. Looking at this year's entry fees, the average double header has clearly moved in recent years from "about £300" to "about "400" a pop. A couple of examples. Brands Hatch DH (2 days, 60 minutes track time) 2011 = £310 Br...

Helmet / HANS combination

Looking forward to my first outing at since 2014 at Brands and the scrutineering paranoia has kicked in good and early! After looking at the Startline advisory on helmets and HANS combinations I think all is good but if anyone could please confirm: Helmet - SNELL 2005 and FIA 8858-2002 anchorages la...

Re: Silverstone format change

50+ cars on the GP circuit is crowded enough especially when it is raining. The pro-rata cars per mile distance is going to be considerably less on the National. Good luck all.....not really bothered that I won't be there.

Re: to those who use trailers

I have had a variety of 4-wheel trailers, open and covered, which I have always towed with whatever the family estate of the day was, usually big Audis. Note one downside of towing a box trailer with a car is poor rear visibility as your mirrors are not far enough a part to see close behind the trai...

Re: CARTEK Flashing Rain Lights

I would strongly recommend that MRC ensure that they obtain written agreement from MSA that the regulation for the use of rain lights as contained in the 2016 MRC regulations is consistent with MSA K5.1 and K5.2 if they have not already done so. Regulation is a synonym for requirement: much of my wo...

Re: Has anyone ever removed one of these from a Dallara tub?

For those who may yet encounter similar misfortune here is how I finally removed the broken stud. I had some drill bushes made up so that they sat over the bush in the back of the tub and held them in place with a clamp plate and some spacers - there are a few useful threaded holes in the backof the...
